Photography #8 - Object of our affection

Last in a series of photos depicting the oppression of today's woman.
Capturing the emotion in the model, the battered feelings of harassment.

Photography #7 - Object of our affection

Photo in a series depicting the oppression of today's woman.
Rising up against the discrimination, the insults.
The white face paint represents the will to fight, and oppose those that force their ideals of woman.

Photography #6 - Object of our affection

Photo in a series depicting the oppression of today's woman.
Left feeling shamed, isolated.

Photography #5 - Object of our affection

Photo in a series depicting the oppression of today's female.
Rising up from the oppression, the shaming, the abuse.

Photography #4 - Object of our affection

A series of photographs depicting the oppression of today's woman.
Body policing, depicting one single body type as ideal. Slut-shaming, implying sex is unnatural and dirty (only for females).
Women still earn less in the workplace. Women are taught how to avoid rape. Women are blamed for rape (What did you wear? Did you drink? )

And people say feminism isn't relevant in today's society.

Photography #3 -Underwater

Another in the underwater series. Capturing the chaos and turbulence of the water.

Photography #2 -Underwater

Second photo in the series of underwater shots.
The lights brought a nice contrast to the darkness of the water.
2010.

Photography #1 -Underwater

Part of an underwater series of photography. Catching the movement of the models underwater and seeing how the water pulled at their bodies.

Logo Design

A sample of work from my logo design with the local waterslide repair company.

Starting with some abstract ideas, moving to a single concept.
The boss is very indecisive.  Project is still a work in a process, but closer to the end (I hope).

Started in august 2010.

Painting #2

Painted with acrylic paints in 2008. Done in 30 minutes.
Capturing the quick fluent motion of the dolphins and the water.

I want to make another version of this. It was fun to paint.

Painting #1

Painted with acrylics. A study on colours from the cooler spectrum. Completed in 2008 as a school project.

Ceramics #5 - Details

Details on the Chalice of cycles.
Love. Ivory. Crackle.

It always comes out a little different. It keeps glazing interesting. And terrifying.

Ceramics #5

The chalice of cycles.
A sister piece to the Chaos Dragon, representing the acceptance of infinite cycles.
On the surface we see acceptance of the cycle, but beneath there is struggle and conflict, rising against the cycle of life.

Completed in two weeks (minus the winter break, where I didn't have access to the kiln).
Ivory crackle, but of course.
Amber under jade, but this time, amber glaze is more dominant. Giving an earthly struggle.

Ceramics #4 - Initial sculpture

Dragon bust sculpture in the beginning stage. Day 2 of sculpting. Got most of the features down, and the form. Still need to hollow the dragon out, and refine the scales.

Sketchbook Entry #15

Initial sketches of Dragon Bust for ceramics. Was spending a bit of time deciding on the teeth placement. It was a hard decision between the tusks and bottom canines. The tusks won in the end.

This sculpture is going to be detail-oriented, with a simple rub glaze.

Ceramics #3 - Egg details

Details on Chaos Serpent.
I love ivory crackle so much. It's addicting.

More jade green was used than amber, to give it a serpent-like colouring and texture. More translucent.

Ceramic #3 - Egg

Starting with the concept of an egg, and finalizing with this. Ouroboros and it's clutch of eggs.
Ourboros is commonly represented by a snake or a dragon clutching it's own tail in it's mouth, representing an infinite cycle. Eggs also play to the cycle of life, a constant cycle of birth and death.

But what if we break that cycle, and challenge the infinite.

Made with ceramics, glazed with ivory crackle,  and amber under jade green.

Illustration #1

Illustration for art class. Took approx. 2 hours. Finished product of an earlier sketch.

Illustrates the disease fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva, also known as 'living statue disease'.
Incorporates the feelings of being grounded, paralyzed. The bones take over the flesh, and render the person immobile.

Ceramics #2

Ceramic sculpture mixed with melted glass. Following the organic form of a nautilus shell.
Took about 1-2 weeks to make during school.

Ceramics #1

Ceramic sculpture of a dragon clutching an egg. Ivory Crackle glaze for the egg, Jade over amber glaze for the dragon.
Took about 1 1/2 weeks to sculpt during school, another few days to glaze and fire.

Still life

Still Life - Rendered with HB and 2B pencils. Structural sketching took about 2 weeks. Rendering took about.. 1-2 weeks?
It's hard to measure the time since I was only able to work on it every few days.

Drawn from a large array of miscellaneous objects thanks to my lovely art teacher, who seems to make a hobby of collecting strange items for his students to draw.

Sketchbook Entry #14

Sketchbook Entry #14 - Conceptual sketches for illustration of a medical disease.
Very. Very rough.  Just planning out some possible ideas. Ended up going for something more similar to the second sketch.

Sketchbook Entry #13

Sketchbook Entry #13 - Speed sketching in Math class and School Hallways.
Can't remember exactly how long I spent. Somewhere between 1-2 minutes.

Sketchbook Entry #12

Sketchbook Entry #7

Sketchbook Entry #7 - Snake eggs + concept idea for dragon egg sculpture
Might have to re-take this photo. The page got banged up. But it's the first draft of my chaos dragon.

Sketchbook Entry #6

Sketchbook Entry #6 - Study on snakes +Snakes hatching, rough sketch on alternative dragon

Sketchbook Entry #5

Sketchbook Entry #5 - More studies on dragons, and eggs.
Sketch of a serpent + egg cracking + what an egg looks like when hatching

Sketchbook Entry #4

Sketchbook Entry #4 - Study on Dragons

Not sure if this would count as one or two entries. It's a smaller sketchbook, so two pages can fit into one entry.
Rendering done with a simple mechanical pencil.

Sketchbook Entry #3

School project - Making story board illustrations according to lyrics/poems
Lyrics are doodled under sketches.

Trying to not get "ANIME" with my facial style. That is my one criticism every time I draw. I love drawing graphic style though. Which some people find it hard to distinguish from anime.

But perhaps I'm just crazy and need to lay off the anime.

Sketchbook Entry #2

Sketchbook entry #2, practicing feet structure.
Toes are really hard to draw.  Everyone's toes are different.

Top half of the sketch page is a rough idea for an underwater photo shoot.

Sketchbook Entry #1

This is a big file. And my first posting to my blog.
Hurray~

First entry in my sketchbook. A study on hands for an in-class illustration.

I have a bad habit of drawing my frustrated faces in my rough sketches.
